This book cover was created in response to an online tutorial led by Jessica Hische. The goal of this tutorial was to create a drop cap book cover similar to the ones Ms. Hische has designed for Penguin Books.
I chose to design a cover for IT by Stephen King. A major aspect of the story that I wanted to feature in my design was a sewer. In the book a monster lurks in the sewer of a small town and terrorizes it’s citizens. I incorporated this into my book cover by illustrating an S with bracketed serifs that take the form of open sewer pipes, with a paper boat flowing from one end to the other.
