Roma Slum, Kamieńskiego, Wroclaw

Roma people are usually very cautious about leting any ousider in, let alone with a camera. These pictures were therefor quite hard to get. It involved alot waiting and negotiation...

This particular settlement was found some 25 years ago by Romanian roma people leaving for Poland. The huts are made of recycled materials, the people are born and die in them - it is a self contained capsule. The reason they are not integrated in the society is the fact that these people do not exist by law. They have no birth cetificates, no passports - they never had even back in Romania... It is a catch 22 area.
