"Music Through the Decades"
Deck of Cards created in Typography & Letterforms course at Northwest Missouri State University
This deck of cards was completed in a typography course at Northwest Missouri State University. The challenge was to create a deck of 54 cards (2-Ace for each suit and 2 Jokers) that both uses graphics along with typographic elements to effectively display an overall theme - in this case music through the decades. Each number represents the decade of music (2's are the 1920's, 3's the 1930's, and so on) and the individual suits are made up of a significant artist of that time. The face cards were done slightly differently; since they tend to be the most important they were dedicated to some of the most influential musicians of all time. All of the Jacks display Michael Jackson, the Queens are Madonna, and the Kings Elvis Presley naturally with each suit having similar design qualities. The four Aces each display one of the four members of The Beatles, while the Jokers are dedicated to the biggest one hit wonders of all time.
