The Night of Arts Academy 2015 - Project management

The Night of Arts Academy is an annual open house event, hosted and organised by students of Turku University of Applied Sciences' Arts Academy. Every year the students of Arts Academy elects the group of students to organise this amazing evening for the people of Turku. On fall 2015 I got elected to manage the organising group and the whole event.

The Night of Arts Academy requires lots of effort to keep the set together. It's on project managers responsibilities to keep the planning on going and together and make sure the sub-teams work on schedule. Also all of the legalities, such as required permissions, first aid preparedness and bouncers.  In addition the project manager/producer is in responsible to make and keep the budget favourable for this non-profit event. Key ingredients in this project are sponsors, marketing, program team and performers.

In 2015 the theme was based on economic depression and within it, the importance of culture and arts during the difficult times. The main goal was to spread the knowledge of our fantastic school, both as an educator and as culture provider. In addition we wanted to raise the amount of audience from last year.

The event was successful and tempted over 500 people on location to follow various talents we have in Arts Academy of TUAS. The budget was met successfully and the event was marvellous.

The Night of Arts Academy was organised for 9th time in 2015.

What I learned the most
+ Always check, double-check and check once more - everything
+ Make a list of the most important matters and create idiot-proof plan b's for them
+ Use time, money and effort for marketing - "They advertised it too much", said no-one ever
