The inspiration of this design comes from the angular, crisp style I create sculpture in. I wanted to highlight geometry through the typography, yet allow the letters to flow together to represent the cohesion found within my work. The primary reason for allowing the “M” to tower above the other two letters is as a nod to Vermont, where I was raised, to represent the mountainous terrain that has helped shape who I am. 

 

I am intrigued by the idea of transparency, and how this is typically only applicable to clear objects. After working with the idea of transparency, and linework on some recent projects, I wanted to find a way to bring this into my CV and business cards. I created a mark and point system that maps out on the reverse side, where text is located, to create a visual map, suggesting transparency on opaque paper. The three images of my card demonstrate the process and idea behind the design.
