ADDING A LITTLE COLOR AMONG THE GREY.
Project Year     /     2015
The following project is the final project proposal for the subject Advance Interior Design Practice II.

"Adding a little color among the grey", "color" here means fun and happiness while the word "grey"
means the elderly; adding fun and happiness into the life of the elderly, somewhere out of town.
Henceforth the inspiration of the title "off-town".

A realization of severe issues relating the elderly (the most common: depression) has been increasing
rapidly throughout the years due to the lack of discussions & awareness concerning their life and needs in
Malaysia. Disheartened in knowing the current situation of how the elderly are being treated in today's society,
it became an inspiration to create a place for the eldery - a place where they can have fun and enjoy themselves.
Most importantly, a place where they belong.

The Prologue discusses about the hardwork of our elderly in shaping the Malaysia we have today and
despite of that the realization of how are they being repaid in today's society. Most importantly,
how all of that lack of awareness cause the increase of depression among the elderly.
Chapter 1 explains on how the selected site at Port Dickson came to be: location conveniency and that
high percentage of the locals are elderly. Secondly, 7 strategies are proposed to create the ideal place for
the elderly. After that, mindmaps of methodology mapped out to ensure the completion of the project proposal.
Chapter 2 analyses the current conditions of the common elderly retirement center in Malaysia and
well as the proposed ideation of a place that is fun and safe. Case studies for foreign projects of
relating subjects for "fun" and "elderly" are also studied for further understanding of the topic.
Chapter 3 proceeds with site analysis of the selected site at Port Dickson: how
will its surrounding elements affect the spatial planning and design of the project.
Chapter 4 starts by explaning the proposal for the project by solving the current issues in the neighbourhood
and focusing on a specific group of target users. With aim and objectives identified, a survey of the current activities
of the elderly at the site is conducted and analyzed in order to identify their programme schedule and to advance into
the programming strategy and formation stage.
Chapter 5 comes in with the design formation of each activites by analyzing the compatibility of
each new interpreted activities and creating a suitable space considering the users' safety and ability.
Following that, the spatial programme planing is then based on the consideration of the users' daily
programme schedule, privacy level and data collected from the site analysis.
Chapter 6 displays the final results and visuals of how the proposed activities
look on site completed with selected materiality and the target users.
