The Welsh Renal Clinical Network approached to have the branding of the network from multiple sectors with branding the whole of the Wales based NHS Renal Clinics under one banner.
Given the colour scheme and typographic pointers to consider by the client, which in detail, was to use the current colour scheme that is already in action by the Wales NHS Boards, namely blue and gold.
Visually, the concept was to integrate the idea of 'WALES' and 'RENAL', more specifically the recognisable part of the body related to the renal studies, the kidneys.
The concept is a fairly obvious yet realistically impacting design based around the proud icon of the Welsh dragon, and utilising the shapes offered by a dramatic iconic creature to add and capture the obvious yet subtle kidney element within the wings, not deferring from the visual concept of the dragon but adding an element of recognition as what is before your eyes. Its a dragon with wings in the shape of the kidney with detail, easily translated as 'WALES' and 'KIDNEYS' e.i. Welsh Renal.
Typographically, as with a public sector institution, a more traditional approach to the typeface was considered. Choosing Baskerville due to the ease of use to read and the traditional and professional feel.
