A very charismatic location with an interesting background. The leigh Woods sits alongside Pill path, cycle track that runs along the river Avon George, Bristol.
Being an old quarry from the industrial era plus an ex Police firing range I chose a strong, bold typeface that I feel suited the nature of the area and the chosen word, obsolete.
This particular typeface was chosen from a 19th century, American wood, type specimen book. It was used a lot during the industrial revolution through traditional methods such as sign writing and letter press. When coming to paint the piece I wanted to use these letters in more of a modern context. Adding bevelled edges and a military aesthetic through the use of spray paint and emulsion.
