Wood Footstool
Handcarved
Handcarved
This project developed by taking a utility material -- slab wood, wood that was destined to be burned in a wood stove as a source of heat -- and turning into a beautiful piece of utilitarian furniture that will also sit well as an object of art in the lounge when not in use.
It was designed so that I could build it myself, being a novice woodworker with only hand tools. The top was carved using various chisels. The bottom of the base was grooved out to receive the base and then one concealed screwed was used in addition to glue to create a secure attachment.
The elegant curved piece that runs parallel with the top slides through a notch in each leg to help tie them all together. It also provides bracing support to each end of the top.
