Since hitting the market in 2008, the Fantastic Plastic pedal has been consistently Australia’s highest selling BMX-specific pedal. The glass fibre-reinforced nylon body creates a lightweight, shin-friendly and affordable pedal; that still has ample grip and strength.
Concept development, aiming for an aggressive persona, while also attaining a visual acceptance into the Colony family of products - through the prevalent 45° chamfered edges and large curved faces.
All features of the pedal-body were honed to reduce unneccessary weight, create a thin and lightweight aesthetic; and maximise plastic in-mould flow.
Solidworks’ Cosmos Xpress was used to conduct stress-tests on CAD models and identify potential failure areas of the pedal, prior to manufacture.
In addition to the standard option of glass-reinforced nylon, polycarbonate has also been used for limited edition translucent pedal bodies. This material results in a stiffer pedal as well as the intriguing see-through finish.
