INDIAN PRINTED AND WOVEN TEXTILES
BAGRU PRINT
 
It is a traditional process of hand block printing on textiles, with rich natural colors.
KALAMKARI PRINT
 

It refers to a method of painting natural dyes onto cotton or silk fabric. Kalamkari means, kalam(pen) kari(work) which means art work done using a pen.
 

 
 
 
 
AJRAKH PRINT
 
"Ajrakh" is an arabic word referring to the moment when the sun hovers on the horizon, and the sky is red blue and black dotted with stars.
SANGANERI PRINT
 
Dyeing of sanganeri printed cloth is by use of natural colors ( vegetable colors)as such, the finished cloth often for its calico printed bed covers,quilts and saris.
PAT WOVEN
 
 
SAMBALPURI WOVEN
 
Sambalpuri is a traditional hand-woven ikkat wherein the wrap and the weft are tie-dyed before weaving.
JAMDANI WOVEN
 
The unique hand technique of weaving figured muslin was called jamdani in olden days and the weave was called dhakai.
 
 
MADHUBANI PRINT
 
Madhubani use two dimensional imagery and the colors used are derived from plants. Generally no space is left empty; the gaps are filled by paintings of flowers, animals,birds and even geometric patterns.

KANTHA WORK
 
 
 
PHULKARI WORK
 
The word phulkari literally means "flower- embroidery". It is a form of traditional art where it is done in simple designs with long and short darn stitches.
ZARDOZI WORK
 
Zardosi is an ancient persian art which has been passed down for many generation. Intricate patterns traced in gold and silver, studded with seeds, pearls and precious stones around enhances the shimmering beauty of silk velvet and brocade.
PIPLI WORK
 
The ethnographic textile includes- applique craft of pipli which is locally called as chandua in oriya language. Flat motifs are first cut from the clothand specifically prepared motifs are made seperately. The edges of the motifs are turned in and and skillfully stitched.
CHICKANKARI WORK
 
It is also known as white embroidery mostly done in the white thread on white fabric. It is a fine and intricate shadow work type of embroidery.
LAMBANI WORK
 
It is an amalgam of pattern draning, mirror work, cross stitch and overlaid and quiliting stitches with borders og "kangura" patchwork applique.
 
KASUTI WORK
 
Kasuti also known as kasooti is the oldest form of embroidery in India. It is known as "mother of world embroidery".
 
 
 
 
 
TIE-DYE AND ITS TECHNIQUES
CLAMPING
 
Like any other fold, determine the centre, Pinch the fabric and grasp the fold with a clothespin.
KNOTTING
 
Hold the cloth at both ends and twist into a long rope form. Tie the rope into a knots and tighten as much as you can.
MARBLEING
 
The marble effect is obtained by scrunching the fabric, creating the tightly rippled dying surface that produces tha patterns.
STRIPES
 
Roll the cloth very loosely, forming a long tube. The stripes will be at right angles to the tube. Tie at one intervals or as far apart as you want the stripes to run.
CONCENTRIC CIRCLES
 
Pinch the centre part of the fabric where you want the concentric circles to begin. Tie this part with the thread about half inch from the end.
SPIDER WEB
 
The spider fold is a variant of the spiral fold wherein the cloth is folded in half vertically down the middle before it is twisted into spiral shape and tie the cloth tightly.
TRITIK
 
Tritik stitching is a small running line of stitiching that is gathered tightly developing a pattern.
SQUARES
 
Fan the material longwise, fold ittowards the centre from both he sides, and tie it horizontally and vertically.
RUCHING
 
Using thick cord, place the cord along the longer edge of the fabric, roll the fabric around it, leaving the knot and loop protruding at either end, pass the knotted end of cord through the loop and pull tightly to ruche the fabric.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
SHIBORI
 
It is a japnese term for several methods of dyeing cloth with a pattern by binding, stitching,folding,twisting compressing it or crapping.
Sew a strip of fabric into a tube that will fit snugly over a drainpipe. Wrinkle the fabric up the pipe and the warp with string.
