Escapement Microbrewery

Escapement is defined as “A means by which the pendulum [in a clock] allows the going train to operate at a regular interval, thus controlling the passage of time”.  This definition served as the primary inspiration for this project.  The design utilized the clock motif through the materials, artwork, mural, and layout.  The layout of the microbrewery encourages social interaction between two spaces.  By placing the bar in the center of the two spaces, traffic of customers and the staff rotate as if working in harmony to pass time in the way the hands of a clock rotate around the face of the clock.  One side allows for more quiet interaction while the main dining area encourages interaction for the masses.  Also, many finishes used are metal based to create an industrial feel.  The harshness of the metals reflect the mechanisms within a clock.  By placing vintage drawings of the inner workings of a clock the environment and space itself begins to give the feel of a quaint historical feel.  To encourage community involvement, having a local artist paint a mural that focused on the motif as well would be desired.  Creating a unique environment that has harmony in finishes, lighting, and artwork Escapement would be the best choice to escape from life.
