The Shining - papercut series

So, you start a project just for fun...
Then, the more you think about it and research it, the more it snowballs. The Shining is a product of Kubrick's obsessive attention to detail and seems to encourage obsession. Once I got to work on the first piece, The Maze, I realised how many other details from the film could work in the same way. Eventually, I hope to develop this into a series of eight.
The Maze - look closer. The fun thing when making this was grappling with the fact that there is no definitive maze from The Shining, so you have to make choices about which maze you're doing. I really wanted the trail of footprints in the snow to be the actual route Danny takes in the finale, but it bears no relation to the maze as we've seen it elsewhere in the film.

The Carpet (No.1) - so simple, and yet... This is the most iconic element, but all the interior design in the film is striking and quite enough to hook an obsessive mind. This piece will, eventually, be joined by other carpets from the Overlook Hotel, including Room 237 and the Gold Room. I know - geek to the nth degree.
