This collection is inspired by the movie ‘Frida’, the story of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. For these fabrics; the colours, pattern and texture, I used stills from the movie but also drew from the energy within Frida’s paintings and her vibrant personality and style. I was also influenced by menswear within this project, concentrating mainly on striping and checks, inspired by Frida’s powerful, dominant side, her love for wearing menswear, and also by Frida’s husband. This created a balance between the masculine and feminine qualities of the fabrics beginning with the colours of the warp I chose for the double cloth; tones of red for one, and tones of blue for the other, symbolizing the marriage between the two powerful characters, while the weft builds the story between them.
