Olweus Leadership and Parent Handouts

The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation is a force of healing and hope for individuals, families and communities affected by addiction to alcohol and other drugs. The Olweus handouts are a small piece of Hazelden Publishing’s Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. (Created in partnership with Clemson University.)

 

I was tasked with designing an easy-to-read handout that could be edited to address two distinct markets, leaders and parents. The parent based handout had to be flexible enough to be translated into a different language and appeal aesthetically to Spanish speaking families.

 

My approach was to design a simple, crisp layout that could be color coded to distinguish between markets. I used bold images that were lightly textured to appear slightly grainy to help add a gritty urgency to the bullying prevention theme. One of the most important points of these handouts is the design flexibility. While much of the content is similar from piece to piece many smaller articles, artwork and photos change depending on the intended audience.
