I Remember - Yeasayer

I Remember - Yeasayer
(2010 - Barcelona, Spain)

This little video I created for the song "I Remember", it's a nostalgic look at a past in North Korea that I never had and that I found fitting to the haunting lyrics and psychedelic melodies from Yeasayer's song. It came to my mind as inspiration to represent one of my favorite Yeasayer tracks one that lingers on my head frequently.

North Korea: a country that has the figure of the Eternal President (Kim Il-sung died in 1994, but holds the charge of Eternal President since 1998, in spite of it), a place frozen in time, where all glories are long gone I couldn't think of a more appropriate setting in the world where remembrance seems to be so alive. One place where the ethereal nature of remembering could be a stronger presence than the present tense, where current times gets distorted and manipulated by memories.

I found fertile the idea of recreating a set of memories using some bootlegged footage from the extravagant "Arirang Festival" (officially known as: "Grand Mass Gymnastics and Artistic Performance Arirang") held every year in the capital city of Pyongyang in the enigmatic North Korea in order to remark the scenic sounds and trippy music from "I Remember".
