This project was designed to explore typographic form, composition, and color. We were given seven different pieces of wood type: different sizes and different typefaces. We then created "exploration maps" of our process. It provided an introductory experience with printing on a Vandercook letterpress; composing with wood letterpress type; mixing and printing with oil-based ink; and the importance of paper to the outcome of the design. This kinesthetic experience required me to think and work responsively with the physical process and tangible product.
It also introduced ways of compiling and presenting work. The gray portfolio folder was made to house each of my classmate's design, including mine. It is debossed with a L&CE logo, and includes a title page and colophon which were letterpressed as well.
