Cyclocross Magazine

I co-founded the first print magazine based on the niche cycling sport Cyclocross. My co-founder and I started from the ground up. We wrote articles, worked with a local printing press, created a complimentary website, and executed on our business plan.
An recurring article in our magazine was the bike geek review where we reviewed a new cyclocross focused product in detail revealing it's true strengths and weaknesses. Below is an example of one of the first versions. Note the black & white color, our inside pages were originally B&W to save on start up costs.
In the beginning I worked on everything from cold calling potential advertisers to actually creating the ads for them. Below is example of an ad I created for the inside magazine cover for a small custom steel frame manufacturer. The ad focused on showing the complex details Mike Zanconato builds into each frame.
To accompany the magazine we of course needed an online presence. There were plenty of Cyclocross blogs and online magazines out there so we didn't want this to be our focus but we were both in the internet space for our day jobs and thus tried to leverage the site when it made sense. Below is the wordpress based blog that I designed a custom skin for and continued to edit so that it could grow with our needs. Overtime, more and more content was available in the magazine and online.
