The Ugly Duckling Project - O Pato Quadrado

O Pato Quadrado
The Ugly Duckling Project
The final project on my Experimental Design classes was to design a children's book, using the classic tale of the Ugly Duckling as a inspiration - however being free to do whatever we wanted. I started with the basic idea of a little duck that is born pixelated.
His mother goes do the doctor, who says that the little squared duck is a result of technological advances. He also says that the newborn may even be able to read "digital codes" (QR Code), and that's were the interaction starts.
If the young reader (or it's parents) have a smartphone like iPhone or Samsung Galaxy, he can download free apps that can decipher all the QR Codes on the book.  While they are not essential to the story progression, those codes give little hints about the characters and inspirations behind the project.
Talking about inspirations, you can see lots of little details that alludes to our modern, digital era: the blue bird is named Tweet; the doctor is based on Panda Antivirus (also note the red umbrella, Avira's icon); also some of references on the "Times Square" scene - from logotypes to the window's shapes, the pixelated cat from Alley Cat, and so on.

I'm completely in love with the final product.
