Biography
Bing is a Chinese-born graphic designer living in Southern California. He considers himself as an over-arching designer for his variety of creative disciplines; including motion graphic design, title design, visual effects, and web design. Through his work, Zhang spends a great deal of time taking photographs. Occasionally, he dabbles with the idea of becoming a rowing coach, but his focus always returns to creating through visual communication and all of its inter-connected parts.

 

Description
Crossroads is an interactive narrative piece that can be used as a tool to let people view World War II history from numerous lives. In this project, the audience can choose to follow the characters, as well as specific times and locations of major events, which can teach the user about the events from different perspectives.

 

There is a vacancy in history, a vacancy which contains a crucial understanding and hinders us from comprehending history as a whole. The emptiness that we feel does not come from dissipated events or hollow periods. It comes from a lack of perspective, or an absence of empathetic dispositions. We must observe history as a whole to learn something bigger than what we are told. The portrayal of World War II is a deceitful presentation of history. It was a disastrous global war which involved a vast majority of the world’s nations, including all of the great powers. After the war ended, every affected nation recorded the event differently. With the audience as the narrator, we learn history through an individualized interactive and cinematic experience, placing us all in a Crossroads of history.

 

Photoshop was used for image composing, Illustrator for Typography layouts, and Flash to build the entire site.
