Visual Identity for a Sport Event

This is a concept visual identity, my rebranding idea for an athletic event held once per year on the Croatian island of Krk.
The pole vault is a track and field athletic discipline practiced since the ancient times. It is highly attractive to watch thanks to a spectacular combination of athletic skills and braveness required for someone to become a competitor.

Croatian island of Krk is a popular travel destination. Every year in the late August, some of the worlds finest male and female pole vaulters meet up on the waterfront of the eponymous town of Krk to showcase their skills to the locals and tourists, all on the open public area right in front of the sea.

The strongest point in the visual representation of this event is in the unique aesthetics of the flying jumper. That is why I started by sketching a male jumper, base on a photograph of the legendary Armand “Mondo” Duplantis, the athlete every pole vaulter and fan of the sport admires.

Since this is not a corporate identity, it allows more conceptual freedom. I went with a basic illustration, which is hand drawn and vectorized. It is highly adaptable and can be edited to showcase a different phase of the jumper’s flight.

From here on, I developed a loo mark which I describe merely as an icon.
Instagram is the main online channel of communication about this event. This is a locally organized thing, promoted through the posters and brochures and sponsored by local businesses for which I left spaces in mockups for printed media.
This is a concept, I have not used it for a real client. If you are interested in adopting something in the style, contact me!
