Small Space Living

Small Space Living
The top floor, former laundry room in a 19th-century brick building
was transformed into a spacious micro apartment spanning 215
sqft/20 sqm, tailored for a young professional. Taking advantage
of the ceiling height of 122 in/310 cm, a mezzanine sleeping area
was ingeniously added over the bathroom, accessed via a ladder.
This project exemplifies the concept of “small space living,” where
every inch is optimized to accommodate essential functions. The
apartment features a living area, kitchen, bathroom, sleeping
area, working corner, laundry facilities, and ample storage.
Original rustic plaster wall coverings were preserved on some parts
of the walls, complemented by exposed brick walls painted white.
The floor is polished pale pink-colored concrete, setting a serene
background for the plywood box that serves as the apartment’s
centerpiece, integrating the kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping
area seamlessly.
The small footprint necessitated custom-designed furniture pieces,
including a couch, wall shelves, cabinets, a cleverly concealed
laundry nook with a pivot door, and versatile work desks that can
double as a dining table when placed side-by-side. Each element
was meticulously planned to maximize functionality without compromising
aesthetics.
This micro apartment exemplifies innovative design solutions for
urban living, demonstrating how thoughtful space planning and
creative use of materials can transform even the smallest spaces
into stylish, functional, and inviting homes tailored to modern lifestyles.
