This project involves creating a brochure about the Alternativa Zero exhibition, held in 1977 at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Belém, Portugal. Under Ernesto de Sousa's visionary direction, the exhibition broke the isolation of Portuguese artists and encouraged a critical approach to art. With around fifty renowned artists participating, including Helena Almeida, João Vieira, and Vítor Pomar, the exhibition celebrated artistic diversity and attracted over ten thousand visitors.
Ernesto de Sousa aimed to present both a retrospective and forward-looking view of contemporary art, exploring the importance of the aesthetic process and engaging the public through performances, films, and conferences. Despite polarized reactions, Alternativa Zero marked a crucial moment in Portugal's art scene, bridging international avant-gardes and critiquing postmodernism. The brochure provides a detailed overview of the event, highlighting key artists and concepts, while also contextualizing its historical significance and stimulating reflection on its broader impact.
