Scenario
This project was a test assignment that I did couple years ago for a company called Awesomic. Although they did not like the result I enjoy creating this material and I like to share what I had come up with.

Task Description: Develop an interface for a mobile app with food recipes. Suggest a USP or a feature within the mobile app that will make it stand out among the competitors and increase user engagement in the use of the product.

I had 3 days to do research, propose and prototype.
Observe (Day 01)
Discovery and research. Extract pain points and convert in o goals

Before starting designing, to buy some time it is essential to go watch what competitor are doing and users the activities to make a solution for.
• Pros and Cons with popular recipes apps
• Product reviews on Apple store or Google play
• You tube comments on recipes videos.

At early stages, it is worth taking time to propose goals metrics.
You can give a measure of efficiency, effectiveness or satisfaction to each of the goals you came up with.
• Efficiency: Time spent on a task
• Effectiveness: The (reduction in) number of errors
• Satisfaction: Customer’s happiness

Reflect (Day 02)
Identify customer journey, Setting up personas (Empathy Map) and main features.

The App should be accessible to anyone who wants to eat and cook. Focusing on people who don't have time or ideas to cook and people who have some skills and like to try different things. I had two personas in mind to explore their needs.

Beginners - inexperienced cooker - Like to follow the recipe step by step.
Pro cooker - Knows his way around the kitchen and like to try new things.

I took some time to work out whether other users were heaving the same issue in other apps and how I could innovate!
• Sign up (Optional)
• On boarding
• Search (Recipes, Chefs, ingredients)
• Comments
• Shopping list
• Tags (Highlight users diet and preferences)

Make (Day 03)
Ideate and user test

Keep it simple, focus on an action, a screen should be designed to maximize the result, one action, one screen. Do not reinvent the wheel, always remember that “less is more”. I mapped the basic flow, starting with the on boarding sequence, and listed the features wanted on each of the screens.
My reflections and learnings…

The timeline was short (three days), but I really enjoyed working on Bom App. The project idea was sparked by a personal pain point that I experience often, and it gave me the freedom of choosing main features and visual design elements. However, working within such a large scope made it clear that simpler applications can be truly interesting. As a food enthusiast, I spent most of my time in the kitchen exploring new recipes, testing them out and evaluating their taste.
