Digital Analog
Rhino Process
The Digital Analog project began with the use of Rhino, where a 3D sculpture of a cone intersection and a rectangular prism was created. The model was unwrapped onto a flat plane, creating a template that could be used to create a 3D model. After unwrapping the shape, it was printed and turned into a physical model.
Iterations
My first iteration contained no ‘tabs’, as it was intended for me to gauge where they needed to be placed. Impromptu flaps were made to highlight gaps in the shape, as can be seen in the photos. My second and third iterations allowed me to familiarise myself with the construction of the shape and highlighted how difficult making a cone out of paper is.
Final outcome
Retrospectively, I would have chosen a simpler shape than a cone to intersect with another shape. The seam where the cone connects reduces the impact of the final model, as it is very noticeable and hard to work with.
