"CHAOSMO"
graphite, Xerograph, gouache, acrylic,
and print collage on watercolour paper
17" x 22" • 1993
This was created as a parody of glossy women's magazines in an early personal conception of the anti-fashion ethos, and was submitted to final critique in Third-Year Painting at the Alberta College of Art. It includes a highly-condensed version of my thesis on its backside, here presented entirely for the sake of curiosity. It's pretty "out there"; I was reading a lot of Huang Po and at the very start of my lifelong study of Hindustani music at the time. The death of Frank Zappa was announced as I was cementing the collage, so I cut up my copy of the recent Guitar World special to pay him tribute. What a time to be alive.
