Books bring out the greatest love of design in me. There are so many elements that need to be considered both inside and out to make each book a work of art that readers enjoy and love to hold. Whether it is a novel, a how-to, a children's book, an educational textbook, or any numerous possibilities, a book helps capture the reader's imagination.

One such book is “The Joy of Yoga.” It is not a published book but rather a university project that allowed me to learn more about yoga while designing a children-friendly book to promote its benefits. Focused on engaging both parents and children alike, the book had to be informative while still maintaining a visual interest in children. At the time, collaging had captured my interest so I tried to incorporate it into the illustration style for the book. I wanted each image to look like a child might have created it. The cropping of the heads for the poses was meant to be rough and the illustration lines for each body were bold, much like a young child's artistic drawing. Meanwhile, the colour palette was soft to reflect the peaceful nature of yoga. Overall, the resulting book is playful, nurturing, and encouraging. It is designed to help kids believe in themselves while being balanced, healthy, and having fun.
