Iara Dias - Game Level Environment Project

For an university assignment, in the 2DArt I course, we had a project which consisted of making different environment studies for a game level, to explore our creative process and expand our knowledge.
This was realized in groups of 2 or 3 students, and my group decided on a story that involved a young wizard, Emanuel Ezekiel, who's extremely weak. All Emanuel wants is to gain his father's love, so he decided to take on a journey to a tournament, so he could finally show his potential to the great wizard Zacarias Ezekiel. What he didn't expect was to find such a dangerous path along the way.
We were given four different symbols, those of which we had to take inspiration from when designing our worlds.

For my level, I chose to keep the bridge symbol as the main one, while also including elements from the portal and lightning bolt symbols, as these were common throughout all levels in my group.
So, I decided upon a magical valley, full of deathly plants and floating platforms, through each the player must get through, catch a lightning bolt, and use its powers to open up the portal to the next level.

Now, I'll show some of my creative process, starting with some thumbnails and sketches:
After finishing some rough sketches, I chose two of them, and made some detailed sketches, as to figure out what kind of art style I was going for with this project:
Afterward, I did some color tests, until I finally landed on one I liked, and refined it into a final mockup of the level:
From this, I started working on a spritesheet as to plan this level out using Unity, as you'll see on some screenshots ahead:
And this is the final level I created for this project, and my process behind it.
