Logo and Website design - Kujima Dojo

The Kujima Dojo is a martial arts academy that teaches the art of ‘Kudo’. The academy aimed to increase the martial art’s reach, with the target audience being young people, through a refined, modernised, and unique website.

Before designing the website, it was necessary to define the academy’s brand identity. The academy’s mission is to provide people with the ‘strength’ to defend themselves with the use of Kudo. Kudo, is a martial art that incorporates the use of ‘nine’ limbs of the body to attack (punches, kicks, knees, elbows, and head butts). The Japanese Kanji characters for strength and the number nine have quite a similar appearance :- Strength(力) and Nine(九). This was the main inspiration behind creating the academy’s logo. Not only is it the two characters fused together, it also looks like a gate, suggesting an invite to the target audience, which also reinforces the hero page headline used for the website, all at the same time. The characters and the logo themselves are the major graphic elements to be used by the academy in their visual brand identity.

The final website design, in the academy’s brand colour scheme, succeeds in giving the academy a modern and refined look and being direct, along with giving it a unique identity.
