I shot this image a few days ago in Lucerne. A female mallard is emerging from the shadow on the quay.

I was drawn by her intelligent look and the lovely duck-shaped shadow she threw in the bright sunlight. It was a challenge not to overexpose given the harsh light, so I adjusted my exposure to compensate for this.

I shot at the maximum zoom available to me with this lens so that I could have her as large as possible within the shot without having to approach her too closely as this would have spooked her.

I love the similarity in tones between her bill and the water, and the way the shadows in the water follow the same left to right progression as the shadows on her.
