Ruth Everhart, historienne introvertie et érudite des civilisations anciennes, se voit confier une amulette envoûtante, porteuse d'une légende mystique. Intriguée et poussée par sa soif de vérité, elle entame un périple téméraire vers le Sahara, s'évadant de son quotidien à Washington D.C.
Au sein de ce désert impitoyable et majestueux, elle croise le chemin d'Ali, un nomade solitaire lié à la terre brûlante. Ensemble, ils déchiffrent les énigmes de l'amulette, plongeant dans un monde d'illusions et d'authenticité où les dunes cachent des secrets millénaires.
Dans cette aventure palpitante, Ruth découvre non seulement son propre courage, mais aussi un lien énigmatique qui la lie à Ali, transcendant les barrières du temps et de la culture.
