Little Assawoman Wildlife Center

Little Assawoman Wildlife Center - Frankford, Delaware
The Little Assawoman Wildlife Center is nearly 3,000 acres of what was once farmland that have been reclaimed by nature.  Fall is the least busy time of year in the center so there won't be many people there and therefore it is a perfect time for a nice quiet walk.  With plenty of beautiful colors on display. You will want to check the local hunting schedules, or wear some brightly colored clothing.  Assawoman Bay separates Ocean City, Maryland from the main body of the Delmarva Peninsula, which can be accessed from Fenwick Island, Delaware. As the name suggests, the wildlife area is part of the Little Assawoman Bay, which is managed by the Delaware Department of Fish and Wildlife.  Kayaking is a great way to explore the area where you can see lots of wild animals including bald eagles, woodpeckers, river otters and various aquatic species.  Within the center, there is a watchtower from which you can see a large swath of marsh and water.  Some of the images below were taken from the top of said tower.
There wildlife center has approximately 10 miles of trails, offering a amazing array of views including Miller Creek, Goose Pond, 65 Acres Pond, Mulberry Pont, Dirickson Creek and Little Assawoman Bay.  A map of the trails can be found here:  https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/assawoman-wildlife-area--2.
There is a boat dock "Mulberry Landing" for those who wish to explore or fish away from land.  You can also fish or crab from there as well.  There is a pavilion at Mulberry Landing where you can picnic.  The kayak launch is located at "Strawberry Landing" which also has a pavilion.  And last but certainly not least, is Sassafras Landing, which has a picnic area and is another location from which to fish and crab.
