A friend of mine does a really interesting project with single moms in a shelter by teaching them quilting, embroidering and sewing skills in order to help them support themselves through the sale of their own work. When she asked me to come up with a name and a logo to help them get financial support from a city-sponsored program, I jumped at it. Now this logo (Maria Retalho or "Patchwork Mary") is part of the label they include in their blankets, totes, pillows and clothing, giving them a sense of belonging and purpose in a delicate, lady-like yet whimsical fashion.
