BAVFX - Caballito 2092
About the Project
Just like previous time, this was done by using Blender, After Effects and Premiere.
The workflow was quite similar, since I tracked it on After Effects and then passed the tracked data to Blender and started working there. The turrent and ship were downloaded from the internet, and then animated with shape keys and nulls. To texture the building I used a frame from the recorded footage and projected the geometry from view with the camera's perspective matching that frame. To break the building I made a rigid body simulation where I made all particles stay together until it touches both the blast and the pair of spheres shown below to simulate the explosion.
On the gif above you can see that I made a blockout of the building to mask out the turret, but actually I ended up using After Effect's rotobrush to mask in the building and the trees. That way I can organize my layers to add 3D depth to the video and solve any overlapping/clipping issue.
Stock footage was also added for birds, blasts and explosions. Video Co-Pilot's Saber helped me to make the engine blast from the spaceship.
To wrap it up, I added a wiggle expresion to a copy of the main comp to make everything shake as the shot collided with the building and finally added sound.
I hope you found this informative and enjoy the end result:
