The painting refers to the origin of the word “rainbow” or “qeshet” in Hebrew, which incidentally happens to be the same word used for “warbow” or a weapon used for war or hunting. And so the Biblical reference of the first rainbow is a mark of God’s covenant not to flood the earth again. God laid aside His wrath and judgment or His warbow so to speak.
