Remedies Playing Cards

These cards are a reflection on the difficulties of accessing quality healthcare and the many folks who feel they need to turn to alternative medicine due to their poor experiences within the healthcare system. Oftentimes times getting access to quality healthcare feels like a losing game.

Each card includes a pattern inspired by a different plant that has been used as alternative medicine in history. Patterns are known for their repetition and as someone who has spent a lot of time in and out of healthcare settings, I often feel I am constantly doing the same things over and over to advocate for my health. Constantly wondering if the doctor I waited months to see will be one who believes me when I speak of my pain or if they will be one who uses air quotes when describing my symptoms and dismisses my suffering. Everything about healthcare in the way I have experienced it feels like a game. And I never seem to win.

Nobody deserves to be told there is no hope of understanding the cause of their pain. People deserve to feel seen and heard by their doctors. I hope there will be a day in the future where we won't have to fight for basic healthcare.
