Fantastic Mr. Fox and the Heist of marvelous Mendl's
When Mondays Challenge solicited theme ideas I was in the midst of a deluge of Wes Anderson parodies on TikTok and was already musing on how interesting it would be to see animators take on the meme, or anything Wes Anderson that is. So, I suggested it, even knowing it'd be a bit of a challenge for myself as well.
I'm a big Wes Anderson fan, and Grand Budapest Hotel along with Fantastic Mr. Fox are my two favorites of his work, so of course I had to try and combine the two. Enter this fun heist scenario. I thin the biggest challenge in translating some of Anderson's technique to this challenge was the time limit. Five seconds is short for a director that likes to hold on scenes for a punch.
I also experimented heavily with a textural style here that I haven't before. I tested it out with the vehicle scene and really loved how that came out. Even though Anderson's films are probably more clean and lend themselves to perfect vectors, stop motion works like Fantastic Mr. Fox have a lot of texture to them and that was the inspiration here.
