Lynn Yamada Davis, a TikTok creator who entertained millions of people with her zany style and cooking tips on her account, Cooking With Lynja, died on Jan. 1 in Red Bank, N.J. She was 67. The cause of death, in Riverview Medical Center, was esophageal cancer, her daughter Hannah Mariko Shofet said.

* A third-generation American with four Japanese grandparents, Lynn Davis became a TikTok influencer at 63 when she launched "Cooking with Lynja" on the platform during the coronavirus pandemic.

* Today, Davis boasts a following of 17 million people and is regularly recognized on the street. She produces three to four videos a week.

* Davis is particular about incoming brand deals, prioritizing partnerships that feel organic to "Lynja." In March 2023, she invested in and partnered with Immi, a low-carb instant ramen.

* In 2022, she was named to the Forbes Top 50 Creators list and won a Streamy Award in the editing and food categories.

* Davis was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2019, and she says the diagnosis has made her grateful for every single day she gets to work and entertain her fans.

Lynn Yamada Davis (July 31, 1956 – January 1, 2024), better known by her online alias Lynja, was an American celebrity chef who was best known for her viral TikTok videos.
Early life and education.

Lynn T. Yamada was born in New York City on July 31, 1956, to Mabel Fujisake and Tadao Yamada. She was a third-generation Japanese-American. She spent much of her youth in Fort Lee, New Jersey, attending Fort Lee High School.

She attended MIT, earning a degree in civil engineering in 1977. During her time at MIT, she was the chairwoman for The Tech student newspaper. Following her graduation, she was employed by the government and worked to ensure the accessibility of federal buildings. She went on to earn degrees in public health and business administration from Columbia Business School.

Davis worked at AT&T Labs for 29 years as a project manager and systems engineer.

Lynn Yamada Davis leaves behind her second husband, Keith Davis, along with two sons, Tim and Sean Davis, and daughters, Hannah Mariko Shofet and Becky Steinberg. 

From her son; You might remember her as the fun-loving cooking grandma. But I'll always remember her as the woman who fought off her cancer diagnosis for as long as she could, humbly and quietly without ever complaining," he said in the video before cutting to clips of the pair cooking, high-fiving, and setting world records and traveling to Japan and Italy together.

Her funeral has already been held, but the family told fans they can donate to the Monmouth County SPCA or the Monmouth & Ocean chapter of food charity FulFill in Davis' honor.
