A Walk In The Woods (Short Binaural Film)

This is a short, 3D-sound, indie horror film that takes the first-person perspective of the victim. A lone Convict is dropped off in the woods at night. He is promised his freedom if he can make it to the center. But something horrible is stalking him throughout his journey. Something ancient.

I made this film during the covid-19 lockdown. I wanted to make something that could be effectively shot, acted, and viewed during the social distancing era. So I came up with a horror story shot with a head mounted camera in the style of the film, Hardcore Henry.

For this film, I used binaural mixing to make the audience feel as if they are hearing exactly what the protagonist is hearing. With headphones, whispers and footsteps sound as if they are happening right in front of you. Recording audio was a unique challenge. But I managed to build a custom binaural sound recorder that fit over the actor’s head by attaching old lavaliers, a Tascam DR-40, and an old ski helmet.
