Typographic Animation

─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
This assignment focused on typographic animation. Essentially, we were required to create a lyric video for a song of our choice. The emphasis was on practicing animating to the rhythm and ensuring that the typography was consistently fitting throughout the video.
─── ⋆⋅Pre-Production⋅⋆ ───
Before I could start the assignment, I had to choose a song. My top 3 choices were "Wish You Were Sober" by Conan Gray, "Scaredy Cat" by DPR Ian, and "Joker" by Rory Webley. Every single one of these songs has an unique story and mood to go along with it. In the end, I chose "Joker."
Rory Webley's song "Joker" explores themes of self-discovery and inner conflict. Like the legendary Joker, the lyrics highlight the problem of hiding one's genuine feelings and vulnerabilities behind a metaphorical mask. The difficulties of upholding a façade and the toll it takes on one's mental health are discussed in the song.
Now that I've chosen a song, I could start creating a mood and styleboard!
For my moodboard, I primarily sought out images that suggested a sense of isolation or anxiety.
For my styleboard, I used comic book-inspired graphics and typography. I drew a lot of inspiration from the game Persona 5, leading me to work primarily with black, white, and bold red colors.
─── ⋆⋅Storyboard⋅⋆ ───
I kept the storyboard relatively straightforward. I added placeholder graphics that I would later replace with self-made visuals. Putting down a foundation for myself, outlining where I wanted everything to be was the major goal.
─── ⋆⋅Production⋅⋆ ───
Ofcourse we had to make our own visuals. So I Photoshopped pictures I took in my desired style  and made a phone and stars in Adobe Illustrator.
─── ⋆⋅Conclusion⋅⋆ ───
I was quite nervous to begin this project because of how things went last year, when I had to do this assignment. However as I worked on this assignment, it turned out to be not as challenging as I anticipated. I took my own twist and style on the assignment and in the end I am very pleased with the final result.
