Uptown Farmers Market Poster

The project was to create a poster to celebrate and advertise an interesting place. I chose Uptown Farmers Market in central Phoenix because of its welcoming atmosphere and support of local businesses. After determining the demographic for the Uptown Farmers Market, I decided to gear the design towards college students who are looking for fresh food options.
After creating a mind map and many quick sketches to capture the essence of the market, I was able to expand on my original sketches to create more developed ideas for a poster. When thinking of poster designs, I explored themes such as "farm to table," "choose fresh, choose local," and "cultivate community."
I then sketched my top ideas in more detail, using a variety of designs that each captured a slightly different important aspect of the Uptown Farmers Market.
After much consideration, I chose the "choose fresh, choose local" theme. Using a combination of ink and cutout paper, I created a bold, impactful poster. I chose a stippling effect to add shadow and depth and used design elements including gradation, negative space, perpendicular lines and asymmetrical balance.
