This educational video for polytechnic students was quite a challenge. Not that it was hard to model or animate but it was hard to understand the subject matter. The material provided to me was a technical document not really meant to aid an artist. I had to scour the internet and actually learn how gearboxes worked. Adding to the challenge was the fact that no two gearbox models looked alike and actually getting my hands on a gearbox was not a possibility. So I had to truly understand the concepts behind the gearbox and come up with a model that was mechanically correct and at the same time abstract enough to be clear and have the knowledge be applicable to a wide range of gearboxes.
