Research the gestalt of musical terms and create a series of 7 compositions, each reflecting their meaning and sound through visuals. Shapes are restricted to rectangles and circles and cannot be skewed or irregular; colors should be black and white. This project encourages students to learn visual metaphors and utilize emphasis to convey meaning.
Starting with 10 terms, I created 7 thumbnail sketches per term to further understand how I visualized each. This process helped me put my ideas down on paper and grasp an idea of what I wanted to translate into Illustrator.
Rallentando-To progressively slow down
Legato- A smooth steady flow between full-length notes
Giocoso- A lively and humorous mannered composition
Mezzo- A moderately soft range, most commonly referred to as a classical female singing voice
Ritenuto- An abrupt decrease in speed
Diminuendo- A gradual decrease in volume
Largo- A slow and broad tempo
