The Magic Flute; Opera Poster

Approach
For this poster, I decided to do with a metaphorical approach to the narrative. I let the themes of flutes take a backseat, and focuses on the antagonist, the Queen of Night, and her daughter. The daughter is represented by the bird, it's inclusion is based off of the motif of birds in the opera, such as the character the bird catcher. The appearance of the bird itself is based off of the girl's costumes in past performances, many of which featuring white dresses. The birdcage is sat atop the Queen of Night's head to show that her and her daughter are in opposition. It shows the girl's desire to break free from her mother, and how she sides with the prince and the bird catcher in overthrowing her instead. The cage is specifically on the queen's head in order to pay homage to the large and eccentric head pieces the costuming for the Queen of Night often includes.
