Fun Without Fear Campaign

Fun Without Fear
The tragic killing of Sarah Everard in 2021 sent shockwaves throughout the UK and brought to the forefront concerns about women and girls’ safety in public places and in the night-time economy.

The Fun Without Fear campaign made explicitly clear that women should always feel safe and secure in public spaces, without fear of harassment or danger. We worked alongside Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner, Kim McGuinness, and Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland to create a proudly feminist campaign with a zero-tolerance stance that harassment and inappropriate behaviour in our bars, clubs and public spaces is completely unacceptable.

A bold and defiant concept was created showing a diverse range of women enjoying the North East’s renowned night-time economy without compromise, apprehension, or fear. The campaign logo itself is a badge of honour and statement of allegiance, worn proudly by all who believe it is a fundamental right to have Fun Without Fear.

In total, the campaign reached 292,415 people via a range of digital and social media platforms, with deeper engagement of 11,362 people through clicks and scrolls on campaign adverts and articles.

Big thanks to Jenny Laws (motion graphics), the office of Northumbria PCC, Project Lead Sam Jones (Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland) and the rest of the team.
