Panchakroshi Temple

This the tower or the vimana of the Panchakroshi temple at Kashi or Varanasi in India. It is dedicated to Shiva, one of the gods of the Hindu trinity. The main deity in the temple is the linga, an aniconic representation of Shiva as the source of creation. The temple is thought to be over 1000 years old, though no thorough investigation has yet been made. This location as certainly been held sacred for that long because the temple is mentioned in the Shiv Puran, the sacred scripture associated with the worship and legends of Shiva. The Shiv Puran is at least a 1000 years old in its latest recension, so either this temple existed t the time, or  a precursor structure was present on this spot.
