Security terms like "speculative store buffer bypass" don't roll off the tongue, but when big security threats pop up in the headlines, Red Hat comes to the rescue with helpful information that anyone can understand. I wrote and directed a series of short explainer animations - working closely with the super talented animator, Wes Leonard - that made very complex security flaws accessible to the general public. The first in the series, "Meltdown and Spectre in 3 minutes" became the most successful organic video of all time for Red Hat, garnering nearly 200,000 organic views, nearly 3,000 likes, over 2,000 subscribers, nearly 100,00 views of related blogs on Red Hat's website and over 4,400 media mentions

In each animation, we use an everyday metaphor to describe the flaw and how hackers exploit it. Then we provide helpful information for what companies can do about it. The formula was incredibly effective and Red Hat gained a lot of goodwill in the industry to this approach.

My video and animation team at Red Hat later developed a live action series with the same basic idea called "Security Detail". It featured approachable Red Hat security experts, projection mapping and an illustration animation style to take a more human approach to security content. All the kudos for that series go to my team as I served primarily as the internal advocate for the series and helped with some early creative direction.
