Khamir, a Kutch-based NGO has been trying to reintroduce Kala cotton into clothing to encourage people to wear Desi cotton which will increase the demand for local resources of Kutch. This attempt provides a sustainable livelihood to people connected to this value chain.
She spent five months in Kutch at the Khamir for her graduation project for a Master's in apparel Design where her vision was to make a collection out of designing textiles and apparel with the local resource that is "kala cotton" that draw upon the interplay between Kutch's breathtaking nature and the diverse people who journey here from afar. Through a delicate balance of traditional and modern silhouettes, each garment tells her story of exploration and discovery through the land's nature, people, and crafts.
