Typographic Assemblage Wall Installation Concept

Typographic Assemblage: A Type-based Wall Installation.

This installation concept acted part of my MA Graphic Design degree final project submission, at Staffordshire University.

'Typographic Assemlage' is large-scale, type-based wall installation concept — my own interpretation of Lou Dorfsman’s iconic installation, ‘Gastrotypographicalassemblage’. This wall design was submitted as part of my final project submission (alongside the accompanying book) for my MA Graphic Design degree. I had planned to make it from wood, which I would then paint white, adding LED lights and 3D components throughout, paying homage to Dorfsman's original design. However, due to unforeseen circumstances at the university, the project couldn't go ahead, so the design remains as just a concept.

The driving force behind this endeavour was to craft a source of inspiration for current and perspective design students at Staffordshire University. Resultantly, many of the designs in the design draw inspiration from, and pay homage to, renowned designers and creatives I learned about and admired during my own studies. Many of the designs were lovingly hand-drawn by myself, then digitised to bring them to life, others were made solely digitally, some with existing typefaces.

Many thanks to Jim Williams for allowing me to include his design (top left) in my design and Richard Mellor for being my MA Supervisor.
