Takeaway Theatre

A response to 1+1 = 3. The flatpack cardboard theatre seat, in its takeaway packaging, is designed to be a front row seat in one's own, personal, theatre. The Takeaway Theatre event is a fictional collaboration between the National Theatre, Cardboard Citizens Theatre Company and homeless charity, Crisis.

In concept, the National Theatre presents excerpts from some of its classic rep and takes the performances into the village halls, offices and front rooms of those who have supported the homeless charities through purchasing a flatpack theatre seat. The performances become fundraisers in their own right. This is a one off and limited event over the period of a week that launches a nationwide fundraising drive for homeless charities. The national initiative is based upon events that feature performance, and harness the symbolism of the cardboard seat as both an awareness and fundraising lever.
